Shitty Manifesto
Well, I accidentally deleted what I had written, but essentially, this document will certainly change over time. The more stuff I learn about anything the more I realize I don't know shit and probably shouldn't be in charge of making the big decisions. I hope to go through the points I lay out here and justify them and go into more detail. As they stand, they are dangerously close to me saying "I like it when things are good, and I don't like it when things are bad", but we all start somewhere. Below, in no particular order, are things I believe are important with regards to technology.
- Things should just work
- If something breaks, it should be easy for the layperson to repair themselves with minimal specialized tools
- The current way we produce technology, specifically consumer technology, is and has been unsustainable
- In order to make technology more sustainable, repairability and longevity should be the focus alongside usability of a device or software
- Processing power or speed should not be the focus of any piece of consumer technology
- Yearly incrimental upgrades are a waste of time, money, and resources. Everything becomes outdated by the time it is made available
- Software that cannot run on hardware availble to most people is inherently flawed, and should be avoided at all costs
- Any proprietary ports are a crime, and should be avoided in favor of more functional hardware
- Everyone should be guaranteed privacy. This is best accomplished through decentralization and encryption (NOT CRYPTO)
- Where a wired solution can be used over a wireless one, it should be
- Don't be a dick to people who aren't as tech literate as you
